Addiction does not discriminate in any way. Every single person I have ever known (including myself) has been touched in some way by addiction. If not ourselves, someone we know and love may be struggling with an addiction.

Unfortunately, for many people, the first time they begin to deal with their disease, is when they come in to contact with the criminal justice system, and they have no other alternative but to address it. But there is absolutely no one who can take that first, internal step for you, or your loved one. Only the addict can make the determination (in his or her heart) that it is time to learn to cope and to change.
